    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • It's a delicious coffee beverage that includes some extra protein.
    • There's no artificial syrup and no artificial sweeteners included!
    • It's ready within 2 minutes- there's no saucepan needed.

    Ingredients & Substitution Notes

all ingredients needed to make peanut butter coffee.
    • Brewed Coffee: You can use filter coffee or 2 shots of espresso, this depends on how strong you like your coffee. You could also use decaffeinated coffee.
    • Peanut Butter: For best results, opt for natural peanut butter without any additives like oil or sugar. If you can't have peanut butter, you could replace it with almond butter or cashew butter instead but the taste will be different.
    • Maple Syrup: I love maple syrup as a sweetener because of its delicious flavor but feel free to use any sweetener of choice. Agave syrup, honey (not vegan) or a granulated sweetener such as brown sugar or coconut sugar would also work.
    • (Plant) Milk: You could use any milk of choice for this coffee such as soy milk, almond milk or oat milk. Even coconut milk would work but the taste will be different! For a frothy peanut butter coffee, use a milk that froths well such as a Barista Oat Milk. If the coffee doesn't need to be dairy-free you could also use regular cow's milk.
    • Ice (optional): to serve

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

Preparing this homemade peanut butter coffee recipe is super easy and only requires 3 simple steps.

Step 1: Brew your coffee. You could use any type of coffee you like such as regular filter coffee or a double espresso shot for strong coffee flavor. For an iced pb coffee check out our cold brew concentrate.

Step 2: Mix milk, peanut butter & maple syrup. Now it's time to whisk together your milk of choice, peanut butter and maple syrup. You have 3 options here. We'll also need to heat up the mix in order to end up with some delicious warm coffee.

OPTION 1: Milk frother. You could mix all of the three ingredients together using an electric milk frother.

The advantage of using a milk frother is that besides warming up the milk, you'll also end up with delicious frothy milk.

OPTION 2: Blender: If you have a blender with a soup-mode, you could also add your ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and warm.

OPTION 3: Saucepan: Your third option is using a saucepan. Add milk, peanut butter and maple syrup to a saucepan on low heat while constantly whisking until the peanut butter is fully dissolved.

STEP 3: Combine. Add 2 shots of black coffee to a coffee mug.

Then add the peanut butter-milk mixture. Taste and adjust sweetness. Enjoy right away!

    Variations & Add-Ins

This peanut coffee is super customizable and you can create the version you like best. Below you'll find some ideas.

    • Vegan Peanut Butter Coffee: We always use oat milk for this coffee recipe to keep it dairy-free. Feel free to use any other non-dairy milk of choice such as almond milk, soy milk or cashew milk.
    • Peanut Butter (Iced) Cappuccino: The key to a delicious cappuccino is the frothy milk in my opinion. If you're using a dairy-free milk alternative, make sure to opt for the "Barista" versions. These usually froth really well. Make it an iced cappuccino by using cold brew coffee and adding a handful of ice cubes to the bottom of the mug.
    • Peanut Butter (Iced) Latte: Add more milk if you prefer a peanut butter latte. Instead of ½ a cup, use 1 full cup of milk of choice. Whisk together milk, peanut butter and maple syrup in a saucepan over low heat. Once the peanut butter is fully dissolved, add the mix to the coffee. Make it an iced peanut butter latte by adding a handful of ice cubes to the serving glass.
    • Peanut Butter (Iced) Mocha: Add 2 teaspoon of unsweetened, dark cocoa powder to your pb coffee and turn this into a delicious peanut butter mocha. Alternatively, for a stronger chocolate flavor, you could add a little chocolate syrup. Make it an iced version by adding a handful of ice cubes.
    • Vanilla Extract: Add ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract for some subtle vanilla flavors.
    • Ice Cream: Instead of ice cubes, you could use ice cream instead to create an extra creamy coffee.

    Equipment

To combine peanut butter, milk and maple syrup, you'll either need an electric milk frother, a high speed blender or a saucepan with a whisk.

    Storage

    • To store: Coffee could be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day but it tastes best when enjoyed right away! Also make sure to give it a good stir before serving.

    Top Tips

    • Strong Coffee: Choose quality coffee beans for a strongly flavored coffee.
    • Milk: The type of milk you use will contribute to the flavor and texture of this pb coffee. You could use any milk of choice such as whole milk or a vegan alternative. For a frothy peanut butter coffee, use milk that froths well such as a Barista Oat Milk. The higher the fat content of the milk, the richer and thicker the coffee will be.
    • Peanut Butter: I highly recommend using natural, smooth peanut butter that consists 100% of peanuts.

    FAQs

What kind of peanut butter should I use?

I highly recommend using smooth, natural peanut butter that consists of 100% peanuts without any additives such as soybean oil or palm oil.

Is peanut butter in coffee good?

This will depend on your personal taste of course but generally speaking, it adds a mild nutty, earthy flavor to the coffee and makes it creamier.

    Is peanut coffee healthy?

I would recommend choosing a peanut butter that consists 100% of peanuts. Peanuts are high in protein, fat and fiber. They are also a great source of magnesium, copper and folate. You can read more about the benefits of peanuts here.

    Can I use decaf coffee?

Yes, this recipe works just as well with decaf coffee or you might want to try our decaf cold brew.
