Why you'll love this smoothie
- Antioxidants & nutrition: Both blueberries and raspberries are rich in antioxidants, which can help protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals. Blueberries are noted as one of the top antioxidant ingredients. Frozen and fresh raspberries are loaded with vitamin C and dietary fiber.
- Naturally sweet: This recipe is sweetened with blueberries and raspberries. It doesn’t contain any added sugar. It's great if you don’t enjoy super sweet foods.
- Quick and easy to make: Making a blueberry raspberry smoothie is a breeze.
- Versatility: You can customize your smoothie by adding other healthy ingredients like spinach, yogurt, chia seeds, or almond milk for added nutrition and flavor.
- Post-workout drink: The smoothie's nutrient profile, including natural sugars and antioxidants, makes it an excellent option for refueling after a workout.
- All-day treat: Berry smoothies are great for breakfast but make the perfect afternoon snack, too.
Ingredients & substitution notes
- Blueberries and raspberries: Make sure one of them is frozen as this contributes to the creamy consistency. You could swap the raspberries for strawberries if you like.
- Milk: I chose vanilla flavored soy milk but you can choose your favorite milk - plant-based milk and such as unsweetened almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, cashew milk, or coconut milk, to make a creamy and dairy-free smoothie. Or you can also use regular cow's milk. Make note of whether your milk is sweetened or unsweetened based on your preference.

How to make a raspberry blueberry smoothie
STEP 1: Prepare your fruit by washing them thoroughly. Place all of the ingredients into a blender.
STEP 2: Blend the ingredients until you have a silky smoothie. Taste the smoothie before serving it. Add some frozen banana, dates, or maple syrup to sweeten it up. Add more frozen berries if you want to thicken it up or more milk to thin it back.
Top tips
- Strong blender: The more robust the blender, the finer and less prominent the seeds from the berries will be.
- Frozen fruit: Make sure at least one is frozen for a creamy consistency.
- High quality, ripe fruit: If you decide to use fresh fruit, choose ripe ones that are full of flavor. I love to use wild blueberries in mine.
- Taste as you go
- Serve immediately
- Garnish: To make your smoothie extra special, top it with edible flowers and fresh berries.
Variations
- Vegan/ dairy-Free: Use a plant-based milk and don’t add in any honey.
- Juice instead of milk: Try adding blueberry or orange juice (unsweetened) in place of milk in this recipe.
- Smoothie bowl: Use a little less milk, add in some frozen banana, and turn this into the base for a smoothie bowl.
Equipment
You'll need a fairy strong blender to achieve a smooth smoothie texture.
Optional add-ins
- Yogurt: For a lovely creamy texture. Use coconut yogurt to keep it as a vegan smoothie. Plain Greek yogurt is delicious in this, too.
- Leafy greens: Smoothies are an easy way to hide kale and spinach. You can freeze leftover leaves, ready to add to this smoothie. It may turn the smoothie a little darker.
- Other fruits: This is a great base recipe to add to. It's lovely with frozen mango, strawberries, kiwis, and ripe banana for extra fiber and goodness.
- Nuts and seeds: Try adding in some blanched, soaked almonds, flax seeds, chia, or hemp seeds.
- Nut butter: Nut butters thicken smoothies and add a richness to them. Try my Roasted Almond Butter, cashew, or peanut butter as a great way to add healthy fats to this simple recipe.
- Sweetener: Honey, maple, dates, frozen banana or agave.
- Protein powered: Try adding a scoop of protein powder (unflavored) for extra protein.
Pairing
These are my favorite dishes to serve with this raspberry blueberry smoothie:
Storage
- To store: This smoothie is best served straight from the blender and consumed immediately. If you have leftovers or want to make it in advance, pop it into an airtight container (mason jar, for example). It will keep for a day.
- To freeze: Another idea is to freeze any extra smoothie into frozen smoothie cubes.
FAQ
I recommend that either the blueberries or the raspberries are frozen for a creamy texture. However, you can also use only frozen berries but you’ll need more liquid.
I recommend at least ⅓ of the berries being frozen for a creamy consistency.
I recommend using frozen fruit instead of ice cubes to make it creamier. Ice cubes usually water smoothies down quite a bit.
