Ingredients & substitution notes
- Chocolate: use any kind of chocolate, as long as it melts quickly; milk chocolate, dark chocolate, vegan, or white chocolate.
- Grapes: you’ll need to pick a seedless grape, but there are plenty of seedless grape varieties to choose from. I like using red seedless grapes, but you can use green grapes successfully.
- Coconut Oil: this is an optional add-in, but I find it gives the chocolate coating a lovely silky, glossy look, and it makes it easier to work with.

How to make chocolate covered grapes
You can easily make these chocolate grapes in just a few easy steps.
STEP 1: Wash the grapes well. Break the chocolate into pieces and add them to a bowl with the coconut oil if you’re using it. Melt the chocolate slowly in the microwave over low heat. Stir it slowly every so often.
STEP 2: Coat with chocolate.
SINGLE GRAPE method: place the grape onto a toothpick or short skewer and dip it into the chocolate.
STEP 3: Roll the dipped grape into a topping of your choice.
STEP 4: Place the grapes onto a layer of parchment paper on a cookie sheet, and allow them to set in the fridge for a few hours, at least 1 hour, before serving.
MULTIPLE GRAPES method: If you want to thread multiple grapes onto a single skewer, I recommend you add a few grapes to the bowl of chocolate. Stir them around with a fork so that each grape is coated evenly.
You can then thread the grapes onto the long skewer by hand and set them in the fridge on parchment paper, as stated above.
Top tips
- Seedless grapes: any variety such as red, black or green possible (my favorite being red), but they must be seedless.
- High-quality chocolate: Choose high-quality chocolate with a high cocoa content and minimal additives like artificial flavors or sweeteners.
- Dry grapes by patting them dry after rinsing, as chocolate and water don’t mix.
- Don’t burn the chocolate when melting! Microwave on low-medium heat and stir intermittently to encourage even melting.
- Allow the excess chocolate to drip off before laying them on the parchment or wax paper.
- Ensure there is space between each grape skewer while they are setting in the fridge.
- Remove from the fridge about 15 minutes before serving.
Variations
- Type of chocolate: This recipe works with any type of chocolate such as semi-sweet, dark chocolate, milk or white chocolate. I prefer dark chocolate for its slightly bitter tone.
- Vegan: choose vegan chocolate and toppings.
- Toothpick or Skewers: both will work, but the toothpick method is less messy.
Toppings
I really recommend adding some toppings- they look really pretty, add some texture and taste great. The options are endless!
- Crushed nuts such as peanuts, almonds, pistachios, cashews, or macadamias.
- Sprinkles and sparkles.
- Freeze-dried fruit such as strawberries.
- Second type of chocolate: such as a white chocolate drizzle.
- Sea salt.
- A touch of chili powder.
- A pinch of orange zest.
Make ahead option
This recipe is a great make-ahead dessert and can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Storage
- To store: pop them in an airtight container and keep them in the fridge for around 5 days.
- To freeze: these little chocolate-covered pops will freeze in an airtight container for up to a month.
- Remove from the fridge about 15 minutes before serving.

- If using longer skewers (such as wooden kebab skewers) I would recommend a different method. Throw 5-7 grapes (or how many you want to skew) into the melted chocolate and toss until evenly coated.
- Then skew them one at a time using your fingers for help (I don't know how to properly word this in English)
- Place them onto a sheet of parchment paper, add your toppings of choice and put in the fridge to set (around 1 hour).
